Problem solving grows easier when creativity’s involved, life’s more fun, there are more nice surprises, and connections with others appear in more pleasant ways, not always driven by commerce or common bonds.
Downtime or alone time can feel more relaxing, or productive, in touch with our creative abilities.
Creative living helps to elevate us spiritually, affecting us in extraordinary and enjoyable ways.
We reach our goals more effectively with creativity in the mix, positively affecting not just ourselves but those around us as well.
Elevated spiritually, we can change the frequencies we operate at as well as feel more connected to the natural world.
Therefore, I was on a mission to unlock my creative by asking some of the most amazing artists all around the globe about their thoughts about creativity
And in this post you can find patterns in their answers, whilst you contemplate the same question.
What are your thoughts about creativity, as a worldview or in your own life?
Here’s what our artists had to say about creativity. (NOTE: We’d love to hear your answer too. Give us your thoughts in the comments section.)
Creativity is the basis of understanding. The reason I say that, is because creativity is relatively the same as being gifted. And in both cases, just because you may be gifted or creative; that doesn't automatically set you up for success. For a person such as myself; I believe that in order for creativity to work... There must be that imaginative perspective in existence. Because creativity is only the gift that is given! And it's kind of like a Lego brick... you can create as much as you like, but if you have no imagination. It's kind of hard to be original.
When I Don't Create I Question If I'm Really Living
My life has irrevocably changed since allowing creative thought to constantly flood all areas of my brain. I used to be able to "keep it in check", for misguided reasons that were probably even unhealthy. I made music for years, compulsively, and only for myself. I had no interest in the other forms of "art". Now I am pursuing every aspect of "art", and it feels like I'm breathing some better, cleaner form of air. Technology now allows the average human to create almost anything it can conceive. Life's... life-ness makes it easy to choke back this inherently human desire, for the sake of some sort of perceived normalcy. Breaking out of those shackles, and completely giving oneself to the pursuit of creation, will improve and reshape any individual brave enough to do so.
I think creativity comes in many shapes & forms & to get a glimpse into someone’s mind is amazing to me whether it’s visual arts, poetry anything. Just to get an idea of how that artist felt in that moment of time is breathtaking. I really enjoy asking others what do they see in my art & to get different angles and views are quite intriguing!
Personally, being a creative person has kept me focused on building a life I want to wake up to every day. With myself, and friends, our creativity has saved us from falling down a dark tunnel when something bad happens. When you have a creative artistic release, it is such a healthy way to deal with your trauma and anger. As well as being an amazing way to express your love and happiness. Without creativity we wouldn't be as advanced as we are as a society. Without creativity I wouldn't be living my life as an artist in New Orleans. Without my weird wearable art pieces and the focus I developed to create them, I wouldn't have healed from some trauma I experienced recently. Creating beauty, either out of hurt or love is so powerful for the artist and the person who obtains the art. The creativity of this city alone makes me wake up happy every day. The world would feel so dull and grey without the creativity of myself and others, and the color and life it breathes into every moment of every day. Everyone is creative in some way. To be fortunate enough to find my path and live a life of art and creativity has inspired others to do the same and find their own happiness. Just as others living this life have inspired me to find my creative path.
This is a tough one for me. When I see how much society has transformed just in the 35 years I’ve been here. “Creativity” is an idea that is novel, good, and useful. Sadly, more and more people are using their “creativity” to do harm and spread negative messages throughout the world. In my own life, I pray that my creativity is used in a powerful positive manner. Speaking on hope and love, truth and deceit, on what’s right and what’s wrong.
I strongly believe that there is an innate drive to create within every person. Creativity is vital to society. It is how solutions are developed. I frequently hear people say “I’m not creative”, but what they don’t realize is that they are engaged in creativity on practically a daily basis. The process of daily life requires creative choices and, sometimes, creative decisions on how to make those choices happen. Art is the most obvious form of creativity. Every culture has an art history and tradition within itself. This will be no different until the end of time. Creativity is a way to learn from one another and come together if both parties are open minded. Someone else’s creative process can be so inspiring! I cannot imagine a life without creativity.
I think creativity is one of, if not the most important aspect of my life. Without it I not only wouldn’t have created any art, but I also wouldn’t be leading the same life. Without creativity I may have let society dictate my choices by way of communicating to me what is a legitimate lifestyle and what isn’t. The artist typically leads the life of an outsider, providing her own sense of fulfillment and satisfaction instead of seeking it from external entities. This in and of itself involves a creative outlook, before the artistic process can even begin.
Oh No! I have read Chris’s book and it’s going to massively influence what I say here. Creativity is inherently part of us, we have an infinite wellspring from which to draw from and I believe we owe it to ourselves to use creativity to tap into ourselves and discover who we really are, as individuals, and what gifts we have inside us. Creativity is widely regarded as the most important asset someone has in their arsenal in say, business, but it is rarely fostered and generally goes unrecognised. It’s a powerful force, and one that leads to deep joy, fulfilment, true love and leads down the path of living an extraordinary life which is something I think we all want.
Creativity is a natural compulsion to express the beauty of both the physical and metaphysical world.
Creativity is endless!! From giving my niece bath, fixing something that is broken, cooking, choosing routes as I drive....I am creative in every aspect of my life.
I believe the best ideas come from being in open spaces where your mind can breathe. This can be hiking in the wilderness, in a pirogue on the bayou, collaborating with other creatives, or even having a discussion over the phone. Creativity is a naturally occurring energy that drives expression or communication and we must maintain it when its existence is compromised or its relevance is questioned.
Creativity is an integral part of being human. Our minds create unique thoughts every minute of every day. These thoughts create the lives we lead. I feel like most people do not realize this, mainly because we are not taught that we are essentially creators and masters of design. The arts are no longer considered an important part of the learning process in school, so children are not taught how to find their creativity, nor are they taught how to learn about themselves. Luckily, my childhood was full of music, and the arts. I was taught very early on to look inward, and to be responsible for my thoughts, and my feelings, and how to use these thoughts, and feelings to express myself, and to create new things. Whether it was a new facial expression while singing in choir, or a drawing in art class. Now, as an adult, I create on a daily basis
Creativity is magic. It’s a tool and it’s powerful. You use your creativity for everything. Artists aren’t the only ones that use it everyday. From reorganizing your room to drawing stick figures on a desk. When I picture creativity on a world map, I imagine would see sparks all around the world because it’s so universal.
Creativity is an incredibly important aspect of life in general. Without it, there wouldn't be any new inventions, no new art of any kind, no new growth as a human race. Creativity isn't just about art, it's about finding newer, better, and more exciting ways of doing things. Without creativity, the world would be a boring place
Creativity permeates through nearly every aspect of my life, whether it be in art, in my relationships, or just in how I look at and experience the world around me. I think a lot of times people think that if they do not have a natural talent for art that they must not be creative, but to me creativity is more of a way of life. It is realizing that there are really no rules for how we have to experience the world, and that we can create whatever life makes us feel the most whole.
For me,creativity is what I eat sleep and breathe. It's the one thing that's been a constant in my life. It's the buddy that is always sitting next to me.
Creativity has positively shaped my life since childhood. I find and make meaning when I create new work to share. There's a sort of time warp that happens when I'm painting and I have an intuition that creativity is what I'm meant to be doing. I feel best when I'm making something.
Creation is the epitome of all art. Once completed, all else is anticlimactic.
Creativity doesn’t need a problem. For no reason you put salt on your caramel. A song forms in your brain. Creativity is combining a head, a blender, and a trombone then a piece of art is born. Creativity can be used to solve the problems facing our world, but our insistence on using closed minded experts is stopping us from achieving greatness. Necessity is not the mother of invention it is laziness. The lazy person knows there must be an easier and faster way. I think we should find non-experts.
I believe creativity is liberating, it is expressive and healing. It can take the worst days and help you look at those events differently. I have been able to draw beauty from the darkest days, and feelings of desperation. Those times turned into therapy and I was able to heal and turn those feelings into something constructive.r
Creativity to me is important for evolving. When I keep my mind and heart open to myself and environment, possibilities are introduced in the mind. With the help of my imagination, it invites me to look at things in a new way.
Open your heart Be guided by soul Free your senses Cast off your past beliefs Develop whatever comes to you All art is a creation There is no right or wrong.
I'm not good at pithy quotes, but I do spend a lot of time thinking about creativity. It does affect all aspects of my life. I see creativity as a cousin to both curiosity and problem solving. I think they are all three epiphenomena of the same approach to the world, one that makes you ask the same kinds of questions: What if? And How? Curiosity is a mind state, problem solving is a method, and creativity is a mode of expression. My favorite thing about creativity is that it involves using my hands to make something that didn't exist in precisely that way before. Personally, that connection between my mind and my hands provides a deep sense of usefulness and satisfaction
Creating art is a meditative practice for me. I show my work to connect with people and believe its meaning is realized in the shared “we” space that exists between the creator and its viewers. My mission, by giving people opportunities to pause and become contemplative, is to simply remind them that there's more to life that we’re not always conscious of as we hurry through our day-to-day existence. Through the reflections that they share, I gain additional understanding of what has been created, with each perspective contributing a new dimension to the whole work.
Creative Mirror is such a dope idea. I really want to be a part of this. I have so much creativity oozing out of me but I had to work hard to get to this mental state. I would love to help inspire others to tap into their creative minds until they too are happily overwhelmed with their own creative ideas
Creative is one of the most important things. Whether it is with a biz idea, a structure to help others succeed, or in your own art work (and work it oft is) The kindle for my art starts with a calmness. A separation from the crazy activity required to run your life, no, make that manage your life. A phrase, a thought, feeling is all the spark needed - and the willingness to follow it... where ever it goes. The creative playing fills your life, your eyes your fingers, your mind your breathing your delight your life and you become connected to the real world. Creativity is in some ways extracted, perhaps pedestaled, from the universe in the truest sense of the word Uni-Verse... One Song
Art shows that we don't look at the world through passive eyes, but that we are continually working to construct meaning to the world in order to make sense of either it or ourselves. Creativity can show the ways in which we make life meaningful; a sense of foreclosure to an otherwise unanswerable question.
My best ideas come when I’ve opened my mind up and cleared away all of the distractions, nagging thoughts, etc. Beyond this, my mind has to be an attractive place for these ideas to come. it has to be a welcoming to the muse. To do this, I've got to silence and eliminate nagging, repetitive thoughts. That's basic maintenance. Then I've got to study. The acquired knowledge is fertile ground for ideas that blow in can settle and develop in. Essentially, study, train, and keep your mind healthy to attract the muse.
Creativity is a gift we all possess from the beginning to the end of ones existence, the beauty of it is when you tap into your true nature and embrace your gift. It's unfortunate that so many people get caught up in the "rat race" and don't explore or embrace the natural beauty within one's self. The world would be a better place when that happens.
For me, creativity is the best way to express myself, mainly in painting, drawing, music and dance. But it is unlimited. It can be thinking outside the normal, outside the box, outside your comfort zone, making a change, something new or something old. Creativity is every use of the imagination. It is original ideas used in the production of any artistic work. Any time I use my creativity to create something new and amazing, it makes me happy. Creativity is something that comes from your inside, your thoughts and feelings. Express it!
Creativity is a sacred force. A photo of a sea turtle begins nationwide bans of plastic straws. A raised fist draws revolutionary minds. Creativity is a way to make the expression of ideas more beautiful and accessible. A plain worksheet might seem boring to an otherwise curious learner, but if you add pictures of super heroes or allow them to draw what they are explaining, the learner feels more motivated and the world gains awareness of their unique understanding. I channel creativity as a way of survival. With synesthesia, loud or crowded places feel overwhelming. If I have a creative outlet, I can effectively cancel out the negative feelings and produce experiences to be shared with my community. Plus, connecting with others through art is the best way to build communal relationships and a sense of belonging. Who doesn't want to feel like they have artistic friends? 🙂
Creativity to me is the language spoken from the soul. Example: Early civilizations from ancient kemet (Egypt) to Rome fast forward to places like Madrid, Spain, Paris, France New York, New York or here in Louisiana. Where the creativity is lively and speaking to you at every corner you turn. Showing you the spirit of the people. Without creativity we wouldn’t have technology or the means to travel. To be born with is superpower called creativity; I believe with this skill set, it’s my duty to serve the most high by making this planet a better place with my skill set.
Creativity is flow. It’s what happens when everything lines up just right. In my own life I know I am my most creative when I am living authentically and giving respect to everyone around me. Because we are all connected, when I am experiencing this creative flow I am automatically adding something positive to the greater good. We are always causing an effect on our social environment. We can’t help it. So when we generate creativity in our own lives we can’t help but effect others either by general positivity or by inspiring them to become creative themselves. This certainly has the potential for a chain reaction.
I believe everybody should have some type of creativity in their life. To me, it open doors to better art work and makes life seem not so serious all the time. Creativity breeds an open mind in regards to the arts. As an Abstract painter, I need a lot creativity. I like people to tell me what they see in my art work. I design it to be a unique experience for every individual.
My thoughts on creativity are that it is extremely necessary. Being creative does so much for the soul; it gives a voice to those who thought they didn't have one, connects people, makes you question and learn and grow. Creativity shows you who you really are and you're meant for.
Creativity is something that needs to be exposed more to be appreciated. I feel as many are opening up to see differently, have an open mind, and to let others create as they want. I personally try to create something everyday even if it’s with my kids that I teach at school. Creating something everyday makes my soul happy and I want to continue to share my work hoping that many will be inspired or wanting to create something one day!
creativity as a worldview - this is a broad question as I find many people and cultures try to limit creativity at times , or try to sweep creativity under the carpet that brings out the feelings of uncomfort, ugliness and realness. I feel creativity as a worldview is not always understood as it should be due to different cultures having different styles - those who refuse to open their eyes to cultural diversity aren’t able to grasp the beauty not understand the concept of creativity . Creativity in my own life has been my lifeline- it’s been my survival. Creativity is the person I call when I have no one to talk too, it’s been my best friend and saved my life a million times. There was a huge period of my life when I could never speak up for myself - so my art became my silent voice. Creativity has always been my safe place and a way to translate the story of my life and the things I’m passionate about.
My thoughts on creativity are that is comes in very many different forms. I believe creativity is a problem salving skill that manifests differently in everyone. Whether you can draw a stick figure or a perfectly modeled figure is no measuring stick on someone’s creativity.
For me it’s freedom; l get to be myself & make something out of nothing
Creativity is one of the most powerful outlets in the world. Its essential to our existence. To be able to express oneself in a way, sometimes even without words, can make you feel whole, feel heard, work through emotions, and ultimately bring people together.
To me, creating is living. I feel that God, the Ultimate Creator, (in my own personal life) breathed life into us and God made each of us unique, from our hair color, eye color, to our mannerisms, etc. When I am painting, I feel I am sharing part of my life with others. Whatever is in my heart, mind and spirit is conveyed on canvas. Artists also bring color and shape to our world. Music, Sculptures, collages, paintings, murals, etc....they make up the fabric of our personal homes to public spaces. Art joins people together and helps begin conversations with others too.
